New York City wastewater treatment plant offering couples tours on Valentine's Day

While it may not sound like a prototypical date, a wastewater treatment plant in New York is opening its doors for adventurous couples looking for a thrill on Valentine's Day.

The Associated Press reports the Newtown Creek wastewater treatment plant in Brooklyn will allow couples to tour the facility on the annual day of love. The wastewater treatment facility is one of the most modernized in the city, and it is equipped with next-generation technologies that help clean the city's water.

While it may not smell like roses, the wastewater treatment plant could be the perfect date local for those in search of an altogether new experience. Jim Pynn, who will serve as the tour host and is the superintendent of the wastewater treatment facility, said that couples will be wowed by the plant's phosphorous removal system, as well as other technological systems that break down harmful pathogens contained in sewage.

Moreover, Pynn affirmed the highlight of the tour will be the wastewater treatment plant's egg-shaped digesters, which break down sewage and waste into harmless sludge. Each person who participates in the tour will also get a Hershey kiss as a memento of their visit.
